Joakim Adam, The Lift Lobby Barber

A mini documentary showcasing Jo, where he takes us back to his humble beginnings at Commonwealth. The place where he learnt how to cut hair by his lift lobby. With the essentials only, he became a neighborhood barber in a short amount of time. His neighbours would catch a glimpse of his work through the elevator doors, and it slowly piqued their interest.
Nowadays, Jo works at Bodeiga Barberhop down at Raffles Place as one of the main barbers.

This was a school module project that sparked my interest in documentary making. I wanted this project to be gritty, raw, and very grounded in terms of approach. I didn’t want any fancy lighting or any “clean” shots. For a first time project, there were many things to work on. Nonetheless, this was my gateway to a form of video I enjoy.
